I remember a few years ago Little Boots was the new indie-pop YouTube sensation and most online publications and alt music mags had her pegged as the new artist to watch and then she signed to Elektra and did most of her album Hands with the amazing Joe Goddard, Greg Kurstin and Simian Mobile Disco but the RedOne produced standard pop affair "Remedy" became her breakout song and to me basically undermined everything cool about her. Not to say there wasn't good records on the album (eg. "Stuck On Repeat) but something wasn't gelling about the project.

Fast forward to 2011 and her new single "Shake" produced by Simian Mobile Disco is exactly the kind of single I wanted from her all along.

I can't help but like this song... fits into my soft spot for all things caribbean. The first section of the chorus where Alexis hits that "i don't even wanna fight it" gets me every time.

The video however, has some of THE most blatant and shameless product placement I've seen in sometime. See 2:04 where the camera slow motion focuses in on a bottle of perfectly placed Remy Martin for about 12.6 seconds. Imagine if it focused on the rapper Remy Martin... *shudders*

I might be starting to sound like a broken record with my criticism of the unimaginative songwriting taking place in pop music as of late, but I don't care, someone needs to point out the parody-esque level the situation has reached.

All of the following songs were released in the past 2 years, experienced some level of success for the most part and feature the lyrics "put your hands up" or "put your hands in the air" somewhere in the pre-chorus or chorus. To make matters even worse, almost all of these songs will also feature other overused cliche lines such as "party all night", "party like a rockstar", "we be on the floor", "dj turn it up", "play the music loud", "tonight we're getting down" and more.
