DONT WORRY, MUSIC PRINT MEDIA IS ALIVE AND WELL.

I know I've mentioned this before, but it's not a coincidence that The Fader puts up free downloads of their publication every month yet is still one of the only mags worth buying in the physical. I mean c'mon, an Aaliyah Icon issue!? With unseen Hilfiger-Ad-Era black & white pics!?? Get the fuck outta here. I guess I'm just not used to that level of competence and initiative from my music magazines.

And whilst I could've lived without hearing what the guy from Vampire Weekend thinks, the insights from people that were close to her - namely Kikada Jones, Dame, Missy etc - are essential reading.

Going back and listening to One in a Million, Are You That Somebody etc at length today, I kept thinking about Aaliyah and Static and the influence they left behind. Even just 10 years later, "AYTS" is rightly regarded as a modern classic, a record directly responsible for a seismic shift in the sound of pop music. Anyway.

Buy Fader. Listen to Aaliyah once this week. Take a trip back. Ill take you to the future on the next post.
