BRANDY WEEK: TOP 10 DEBUT FOR HUMAN

Acccording to first day sales predictions, Brandy's new LP Human, is expected to debut within the Top 10 next week with around 70-80k in sales.

From Hits Daily Double:

Atlantic’s Musiq Soulchild looks to be the top newcomer with an estimated total of 90-110k, followed by G.O.O.D. Music/Geffen’s Common (80-90k), Brandy’s first album for Epic (70-80k) and Capitol R&B heartthrob Avant (50-60k).

Musiq always does respectable first week numbers, something I'm always surprised by. Outsold an international star like Akon who did 106k last week. I gotta check Musiq's new joint out.

BRANDY WEEK: SIRENS

When Brandy's "U Don't Know Me ... Like You Used To" came out, the Timbaland/Aaliyah influence was too present to ignore, but without question the sound was perfect for Brandy.

Fast forward five years to 2004, Timbaland had produced Brandy's Afrodisiac album to critical acclaim but underwhelming sales, mainly due to a lack of promotional push by Atlantic Records.

Just think, if Afrodisiac had of come out around the time of Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake's last albums, it would have been a worldwide smash. Instead it was the most revered but least successful album of her career.

My first offering today is the Timbaland produced, Static penned "Sirens". A bonus track from the international CD single of "Afrodisiac". The beat is ridiculous, Timbo beatbox in full effect.

FYI:

Brandy's Human is now available at iTunes and Amazon. CD is in stores around the world tomorrow.

Brian at Concreteloop has a very on-point review of the album. You can read it HERE. IMO, Human is the best comeback r&b album since Emancipation of Mimi.

INTRODUCING: BRANDY WEEK

Brandy's new album Human will be released tomorrow 9/12. If you're a fan, make sure you support her and buy a copy or cop it from amazon or whatever. It will be my first physical CD purchase of the year.

My first post to kick start Brandy Week is the 2002 released "What About Us" remixes. One featuring Nas and the other with Joe Budden. '02 was the year of mixtapes, every New York artist tacked a verse on the most current r&b hit as an exclusive for some DJ's mixtape.

The "Control" influenced "What About Us" was the first single from Brandy's third album Full Moon and entered the top 20 in most charts around the world. It was written by LaShawn Daniels, Nora Payne & Kenisha Pratt. Produced by Rodney Jerkins, of course.

BRANDY - 'A CAPELLA (SOMETHING'S MISSING)'

Make no mistake, Affinity loves Brandy. Forget all these other broads we post about on here, they would all be cutting hair if it weren't for Miss Norwood.

I have had Human playing non stop all weekend. And of course the Darkchild produced pop epics (The Definition, Piano Man etc) have had repeat spins. But it's actually a bare bones ballad, buried deep in the back end of the album and appropriately titled A Capella (Something's Missing) that has inspired me to do a post when I should be doing plenty of other things. No doubt one of the more creative moments of 08.
