CATCH UP

Since I been on blog hiatus the past couple months, I thought instead of posting individual shit, I'd just post a bunch of new rap joints I'm digging right now.

Big Krit - 4evaNaDay

Managed to catch Big KRIT at SXSW at the Fader Fort and he killed it. One of the better rap shows I saw at SXSW.

A$AP Rocky - Goldie

Peeped about half of A$AP's set at the MTVu Woodies event at SXSW. He was cool too, unfortunately it was prior to "Goldie" though. I was actually in NYC and had a meeting with my dude Walter at SonyATV and he told me A$AP had filmed his next video out in Paris for his joint "Crystal". By the time I got back to Australia the video was out and the song was then renamed to "Goldie". Shits dope though.

Swizz Beatz Ft A$AP Rocky - Street Knock

Classic Swizzy. Listening to this reminded me how dope this joint was

Nas - The Don

Was lucky enough to see Nas perform this in Austin. Possibly my favourite Nas record since "Made You Look".

Tyga Ft Drake - Still Got It

Tyga is non-stop on the radio in LA. Heard Rack City approximately 2340932 times out there.

B.o.B - So Good

Super tight record. I really like this joint too

Meek Mill Ft Drake & Jeremih - Amen

Not a video yet but I can kinda see this song blowing up in a similar way to mixtape joints like "Peso" and "Best I Ever Had".

Chris Brown Ft Big Sean & Wiz Khalifa - Til I Die

Incredible production courtesy of Danja. Could prob go without CB's verse but the rest is tight.

VIDEO: FAT JOE FT CHRIS BROWN - ANOTHER ROUND

Can't help thinking I've heard a version of this song when it was a Chris Brown demo. I guess they cut the verses out and pitched it to Joe. I like it. Suspect video though.

BABE: KARRUECHE TRAN

The chick you've been seeing Chris Brown with recently... that is if you're guilty of reading gossip blogs like I am from time to time.

PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR

I might be starting to sound like a broken record with my criticism of the unimaginative songwriting taking place in pop music as of late, but I don't care, someone needs to point out the parody-esque level the situation has reached.

All of the following songs were released in the past 2 years, experienced some level of success for the most part and feature the lyrics "put your hands up" or "put your hands in the air" somewhere in the pre-chorus or chorus. To make matters even worse, almost all of these songs will also feature other overused cliche lines such as "party all night", "party like a rockstar", "we be on the floor", "dj turn it up", "play the music loud", "tonight we're getting down" and more.

Seriously, if you have some time to kill and want a laugh, listen to the first minute of the following songs one after the other.

Chris Willis - Louder

Israel - Party Up

Jennifer Lopez - On The Floor

Kylie Minogue - Put Your Hands Up

Chris Brown - Yeah 3x

Maino - Let It Fly

Jay Sean - Hit The Lights

Elen Levon - Naughty

Taio Cruz - Dynamite

DJ Felli Fel - Boomerang

VIDEO: THE GAME FT CHRIS BROWN - POT OF GOLD

Gotta be honest, I've been pretty cold on The Game's music since the first few listens to his sophomore album, which makes "Pot Of Gold" a nice a surprise. Sure, its not exactly "Dreams" or "Hate It Or Love It" or... anything from Documentary, but its a step in the right direction.

VIDEO: LONNY BEREAL FEAT KELLY ROWLAND - FAVOR

The demo of this record has been around for a minute - originally a Lonny / Chris Brown collab - which would explain the video cameo. Such a dope 90's sex ballad.

However what we have here is a pretty bizarre clip - from the questionable lead girl at the start, to Lonny's Keith Sweat impersonator/Chappelle-character moves to Kelly having a lie-down on that dude's back, its all just a bit off.

VIDEO: JOE JONAS - SEE NO MORE

I've seen a lot of blog folk calling this debut single 'safe' but I couldn't disagree more. If he had gone the safe route, we would be listening to some 'put your hands in the air, live loud, time to party, go all night, on the dancefloor' bastardised dance song.

I'm a big fan. The production/writer credits for the album look great too.

JACKING FOR CALVIN

On April 12th 2009 "I'm Not Alone" peaked at #1 on the UK Singles Chart becoming Calvin Harris' first #1 single...

Now in case you've been living under a rock for the past 18 mths, there is an epidemic taking place in contemporary R&B/Pop music. I like to call it Jacking Calvin Harris.

Here are some examples:

Taio Cruz - Dynamite

Rihanna & David Guetta - Who's That Chick

Usher ft Pitbull - DJ Got Us Falling In Love

Kesha - Tik Tok

Chris Brown - Yeah 3x

JLS - Eyes Wide Shut

Rihanna - Only Girl In The World

Flo Rida ft Akon - Who Dat Girl?

Kesha - We R Who We R

... and majority of these records were some of the biggest songs of 2010.

VIDEO: CHRIS BROWN - YEAH 3X

There are so many things wrong with this song. The big issue being its wholesale jacking of Calvin Harris' "I'm Not Alone", but then if you delve further: Too much auto-tune and a major lack of subject matter.

The most serious question is: How can you go from "Deuces" to this?

VIDEO: TWISTA FEAT CHRIS BROWN - MAKE A MOVIE

I am all for the early 90's R&B style influence here, especially old mate Browny's glasses. Good record too.

K-MAC - "DEUCES" (ORIGINAL GUIDE DEMO)

So, in a post the other day on the CB/Tyga video for "Deuces", I noted, and I quote - "That other dude rapping is so bad I couldnt even credit him in this post"

The shit rapper in question is Kevin McCall, or K-Mac.

Now, in my search to find out who produced the record, I sheepishly discovered that not only does K-Mac feature on the track, he actually wrote and produced the fucking thing. And I even found his demo, above.

I still maintain that his raps on this are abysmal, but I do apologise and give it up to dude, it's easily the best record on the mixtape and might just have made Chris Brown relevant again.

VIDEO: DEUCES - CHRIS BROWN FEAT TYGA

Pretty cool video, I guess. A few notes...
  • This is the best joint from the underwhleming "Fan of A Fan" tape.
  • That girl in there is insane (UPDATE: this is her - thanks Shake)
  • That other dude rapping is so bad I couldnt even credit him in this post.
  • Why am I surprised that it feels like Tyga is getting the raw deal out of this whole "joint mixtape with a fallen superstar" thing...

TYGA & CHRIS BROWN - FAN OF A FAN (MIXTAPE)

Considering how style concious these two are and how hyped this tape is, I expected slightly better artwork, but whatever, I have throroughly enjoyed most of the tracks that have leaked from this already despite my mocking of them on Twitter.

VIDEO: TYGA - I'M SO RAW

I'm posting this more so for the dudes outfit and CB's Raiders cap than the actual verse. Goddaammn that jacket is sick. '96 Bulls need that.

Oh it also looks like CB filmed this the same day he went to that Lakers game with Polow and Ush, judging by the outfit.

GANGSTA GRILLZ - CHRIS BROWN - IN MY ZONE

I think more than anybody, Chris knew he had to make up for a pretty poor effort in Graffiti and his first collaboration with Gangsta Grillz DJ Drama does just that.

Theres about 10 original songs here... all new.

Chris Brown - Medusa (DJ Drama-less)

Download the mixtape:

JUELZ SANTANA FT CHRIS BROWN - BACK TO THE CRIB (VIDEO)

I'm not sure if this song will be successful at radio but I fkn love it.

Produced by Polow Da Don.
