VIDEO: RIHANNA - WHO'S THAT CHICK
Does anyone else feel like its a little early for Rihanna to be bringing out a new record? Apparently her forthcoming album, LOUD is scheduled for a November release.
I don't entirely hate this song but the video on the other hand is....

TUESDAY TRAXXX XVIII

Blogger has removed at least three of my last Tuesday Traxxx and Pappin' Fridays. Fuck you. Most of the time with the only major label songs I post, I've taken the links from big sites like ConcreteLoop, Rap-Up, XXL and shit, who have obviously been solicited to post the songs.
How much longer is this useless process going to go on for? I'll be moving AffinityBlog off the Blogger platform ASAP. Over it.

Kevin Cossom Ft Pusha T - U Know What U Doin (Prod by Danja)

Something about parts of this song sound super familiar: The background vocals in the hook are Keri Hilson's from the Timbo joint with Fauntleroy, and the drums are basically from "Give It To Me".

Duck Sauce - Grand Steppin' (Orig Mix)

TRICKY STEWART ON FORTHCOMING RIHANNA ALBUM

Tricky & Dream
via Rap-Up.com
How do you top a monster hit like “Umbrella”? For Tricky Stewart, the answer is easy. You don’t. The hitmaker behind 2007’s chart-topper speaks exclusively with Rap-Up.com about producing the biggest album of Rihanna’s career.
There are reports that Rihanna’s fourth album will drop before the end of the year. Is that true?
I do believe it is. We’re actually just getting started. I just wrote some records that I’m in love with this past week. Rihanna and I will be getting in the studio sometime in the next two weeks, so we actually have not recorded anything for her new album yet.
Do you set out with the intention to top a hit like “Umbrella”?
I just try to chase greatness and I try to do what at the time is going to be something that is looked at as truly great. You can’t say what record is gonna be a bigger hit than whatever because the hit is always about the connection of how the people feel about what you’ve done. You can never get a gauge on that until the record is actually out. You can make records with your instincts to try to top what you did as far as the greatness that you put into the last record.
Are you going to keep the sound similar to her last album, Good Girl Gone Bad, or try something completely different?
Man, you know we can’t do that. We come out with something that sounds like “Umbrella,” they’re gonna be saying that we tried to do something that sounded like “Umbrella.” That’s not what the great artists do. They don’t even allow you to do stuff like that. Every great artist always wants to hear something they’ve never heard before.
What’s it like working with Rihanna?
She’s just a pleasure. She’s a very sweet, down-to-earth person. You would never know how successful she is ’cause she’s just so nice and warm. I guess maybe it’s her background of being from the islands. She’s just a really sweet, warm person to be around.
How did “Umbrella” change your life?
“Umbrella” changed my life because it was the first hit record that made people want to know who I was. I’ve had hit records before with [Mya's] “Case of the Ex” and JT Money’s “Who Dat” and records here and there, but this was the first record that people go, “I wanna know what that guy is. I wanna know who those guys are.” That was the biggest thing. At that point when that light came on, [The-Dream and I] had been down in Atlanta just getting ready for that moment, so we were really prepared for the ride.
I know for a fact, The Y's (James Fauntleroy, Justin Timberlake & Rob Knox) have cut multiple records for the album, other than that everyone in the industry seems to be on it, or working on it.

JAY-Z FT KANYE & RIHANNA - RUN THIS TOWN (VIDEO)
I'm not sure if I like this song yet. Not really the kind of thing I'm into but the video is interesting. I think strangely enough this will be one of Jay's most successful singles chart-wise. Jay has never had a #1 billboard single. His highest charting single from 'his own' albums is ''03 Bonnie & Clyde" with Beyonce, which peaked at #4.

KANYE WEST - PARANOID (VIDEO)
I dunno about it ... I guess partly because I don't find Rihanna to be particularly attractive, but each to their own.

AND THE BIGGEST SONG OF THE YEAR IS ...

The biggest album of the year, Carter III right? essentially, but technically wrong! The Billboard year-end chart runs from Dec-Nov, so Weezy misses out to Alicia Keys by technicality.
Alicia Keys - As I Am (As I Am has been certified triple platinum by the RIAA) ... The album was also ranked #4 on Billboard's 2007 end of year list. Carter III has sold 2.4 million so far in the US.
Here's a portion of the end of year Billboard facts courtesy of the always on point Idolator:
Chris Brown owned '08 with four appearances in the Top 20 songs of the year.
6. “No Air” (Jordin Sparks with Chris Brown)
9. “With You”
10. “Forever”
19. “Kiss Kiss” (Chris Brown feat. T-Pain)
Rihanna also had a massive year with three songs appearing in the Top 20.
12. “Take a Bow”
16. “Disturbia”
17. “Don't Stop the Music”
Lil Wayne only had one song ("Lollipop") in the Top 20 but a dominant TWELVE appearances in the Top 100 Hip-Hop/R&B songs of the year. As Idolator point out, it sure seemed like Weezy owned '08 but on a pop level the year belonged to Chris Brown and Rihanna.
Read the Idolator run-down
I'm gonna go one step further than Idolator and provide you with the Producers and Songwriters who dominated the Billboard year-end chart.
Stargate & Ne-Yo (-2) had an insanely successful year with 7 songs in the Top 100 year-end chart:
9. "With You", 12. "Take A Bow", 17. "Don't Stop The Music" (Note: Written by Frankie Storm), 20. "Closer", 30. "Tattoo" (Note: Written by Amanda Ghost/Ian Dench), 57. "Miss Independent", 62. "Hate That I Love You"
Christopher 'Tricky' Stewart and The-Dream managed a surprising 5 in the Top 100:
22. "Touch My Body", 28. "Leavin", 64. "Suffocate", 75. "I Love Your Girl", 82. "Just Fine"
T-Pain had yet another great year lending hooks to 8 songs on the list, Nathan Chapman (Taylor Swift, Gavin Degraw) produced 4, Will.I.Am wrote/produced 3, Ryan Tedder wrote/produced 3, Timbaland produced 3, J.R. produced 3, Max Martin/Dr Luke wrote/produced 3, John Fields (Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers) produced 3 and Polow Da Don & Jim Jonsin both had 2 of the years biggest songs.
Its crazy to me that once you add up all the songs by the 15 songwriters/producers above, it amounts to around 50% of the entire Top 100 year-end chart.
You can read Billboard's list of 2008's hottest producers here and the rest of their 2008 year-end charts here

T.I. TAKES #1 & 2

T.I now holds down the #1 & #2 spots on the Billboard Top 100. T.I's second single "Live Your Life" featuring Rihanna has made another record breaking jump from #80 to #1. The track sold 335,000 downloads this week in the United States. T.I had previously set the record for the biggest jump to #1 ever with his first single "Whatever You Like" six weeks ago. The song moved from #71-1. It now sits at #2.
An amazing achievement by T.I, not to mention this is Just Blaze's first #1 single! Congrats.
