5 SONGS WE WISH WERE JT'S COMEBACK SINGLE

"Suit & Tie" may have debuted at #1 on the Hot 100 and edged close to some chart history records but a month on and the excitement has all but faded.

We've had several discussions about the impact and influence "SexyBack" and "My Love" had on music when they were first released, and even the excitement and promise of "Cry Me A River" and a good share of Justified when JT's music was forward-thinking and innovative. Sadly, neither "Suit & Tie" or "Mirrors" feel like they've struck the same chord, which can really only be attributed to one thing; the writers and producers this time around aren't on the cutting edge of the genre.

This kinda got us thinking, why didn't JT and Timbaland bring in the new crop of creative producers and writers like Hudson Mohawke, Disclosure, Jai Paul, Frank Ocean, Miguel, Cashmere Cat, Hit-Boy, The Weeknd etc? If FutureSex LoveSounds had Danja, The Clutch and other fresh young writers, where are they this time around?

Keeping in mind JT's vocal stylings, overall direction and a focus towards innovation, we've selected 5 songs we wish were JT's comeback single, rather than "Suit & Tie".

Miguel - Do You?

Usher - Climax

Disclosure - Latch

Jeremih - 773 Love

Labrinth - Earthquake

--

Some honorable mentions

The Weeknd - High For This

Jai Paul - Jasmine

Frank Ocean - Swim Good

Justin Bieber - As Long As You Love Me

What would you pick?

JACKING FOR CALVIN

On April 12th 2009 "I'm Not Alone" peaked at #1 on the UK Singles Chart becoming Calvin Harris' first #1 single...

Now in case you've been living under a rock for the past 18 mths, there is an epidemic taking place in contemporary R&B/Pop music. I like to call it Jacking Calvin Harris.

Here are some examples:

Taio Cruz - Dynamite

Rihanna & David Guetta - Who's That Chick

Usher ft Pitbull - DJ Got Us Falling In Love

Kesha - Tik Tok

Chris Brown - Yeah 3x

JLS - Eyes Wide Shut

Rihanna - Only Girl In The World

Flo Rida ft Akon - Who Dat Girl?

Kesha - We R Who We R

... and majority of these records were some of the biggest songs of 2010.

VIDEO: USHER FT WILL.I.AM - OMG

Great song. I really love the pre-chorus, something about that change in progression gets me every time.

VIDEO: USHER FEAT NIKKI MINAJ - LIL FREAK (SNIPPET)

I never post video "snippets" or "behind the scenes" but I've loved this record from the minute it dropped. From Polow's crashing of Stevie's "Living for the City" to Nikki's faux (or not?) lady love lines and all in between, all it does is win.

This full vid will be welcomed.

POLOW DA DON x STEVIE WONDER

"Little Freak", a Polow Da Don produced cut from Usher's forthcoming "Raymond Vs Raymond leaked today, featuring the incredible post-chorus synth line from Stevie Wonders "Living In The City".

I really dig the track, but the brass/bass notes Polow has layed down underneath the sample sound bizarre to me... Maybe just because it messes with an uber-familiar melody.

GUCCI MANE FT USHER - SPOTLIGHT (VIDEO)

Alright, so I definitely got my money on this one to be big, certainly Top 10 Billboard. With that said, I don't think Gucci doing a big pop record is beneficial in the long run. It all feels a little contrived.

JUSTIN BIEBER - ONE TIME (VIDEO)

One Time

Justin Bieber is the 15 year old, Canadian YouTube phenomenon (KidRauhl) that Usher discovered and signed to his US Records imprint. Identical to Justin Timberlake signing Esmee Denters I guess.

IMO, I think US/Def Jam have made a massive mistake marketing the kid straight to an urban audience. While I don't mind the actual song (Produced By Tricky Stewart/Written by James Bunton/Ty Cole Corron & Tab) ... I can't seem to get down with a 15 year old singing about LOVE. I'll just stay silent on the video...

DREAM & TRICKY MOVE MOUNTAINS

I got the chance to listen through Usher's new album Here I Stand on my flight from Melbourne to Gold Coast last week and while I don't love the album, I think there are some incredible moments courtesy of C. Tricky Stewart, The Dream, & LOS Da Maestro.

"This Ain't Sex", "Trading Places" & "Moving Mountains" are all outstanding records, from the insanely polished production to the inventive songwriting to the uber-clean layered vocal production. These three songs appear in the aforementioned order at the front end of the CD and they trump everything else on the album which makes me start to think Here I Stand might appear to be a weaker album than it really is, simply because of how the songs have been sequenced.

Just Blaze
actually spoke about cohesiveness & album sequencing in his extensive interview with hiphopgame.com a couple months back. These albums usually get a bad wrap but contain great songs ala Jay-Z's Blueprint 2.

Here I Stand is expected to come in @ #1 on the Billboard Albums Charts with around 450k in sales. Head over to hitsdailydouble.com for more info.

SALES IN / RADIO'S ON

Wiz Khalifa - Say Yeah

Not a whole lot to report this week as far as the Billboard Albums Charts goes. I think me and Weez will have to have some kind of wager on the first week Mariah numbers. Her album E=MC2 is out April 15th. I'm predicting in the neighbourhood of 500-550.. but I guess it could go alil higher depending on her TV appearances and TV personality endorsements over the next week. I'm not crazy about the album or the first single at all but that's just me.

Looks like Weezy is going to have a nice lil #1 at Rhythmic Radio next week. "Lollipop" moved up 5 places from #9 to #4 last week with a gainer of 1311. Usher remains at #1 with around 6900 spins a week.. Ray J/Yung Berg's shit sandwhich may have one week at #1 before "Lollipop" steals their thunder. "Lollipop" has also just entered the Mainstream 40 charts with a pretty strong gainer of 500, so it looks like Wayne is going to have a strong lead up to his album release if the song doesn't get over exposed before then, or if the album doesn't get pushed back again. hmm. He better have a dope 2nd single choice. Finally, Pittsburg artist Wiz Khalifa seems to have a blog/internets powered hit on his hands with "Say Yeah" which looks to be moving slowly but surely with 177 plus spins sitting at #36. I can see this joint sticking around for a minute.

Onto the Billboard Hot 100; I'm still completely enamoured by Leona Lewis' success stateside. "Bleeding Love" is #2 .. Speaking of that, can someone tell me if Jesse McCartney really did co-write it with Ryan Tedder? or is that a media thing his team created to put him in a Justin Timberlake/Dream/Ne-Yo realm? Eitherway Tedders upcoming royalty statement should have alot of zero's. "Lollipop" is #4 with a sales gainer, will probably see it at #1 once it starts moving up Mainstream 40 Radio and Leona & Mariah drop off.

Thats all for today .. Oh, back home I've got two top 40 chart positions this week with Cristian Alexanda's single "Too Fine" currently sitting at #38 and Mr G's "Naughty Girl" at #17. Sweet.
